African-American Stella Macabee is expected to be a shoe-in for approval to the Hattiesburg City School Board. Mrs. Macabee said she would work with the Hattiesburg City Council, should tax increases for the school district's general fund become needed in the future. Eleanor Harris and Fred Burns were not reappointed because they raised taxes and would not cooperate with the city council on their budget. As a result the NAACP pulled the race card with Clarence McGee called our government "plantation style", offending many whites.
Hattiesburg's Ward 4 Councilman, Dave Ware suggested taking the budget shortfall from the emergency fund, since it was twice the recommended amount required by the state. The fund had $5,000,000 and only needed $2,500,000. He wanted to keep taxes low and let the economy recover before putting an additional tax burden on Hattiesburg citizens. Hattiesburg Attorney Glenda Funchess with the Mississippi Department of Legal Services is said to be disconcerted at Stella Macabee's most certain approval.
We are all for a good education system, funding our schools, and for responsible fiscal decisions. The Hattiesburg Patriot received a hot tip that Hattiesburg City Council President Kim Bradley and Forrest County NAACP President Clarence McGee were cavorting at the Trace in celebration of an imminent approval of Mrs. Macabee. We hid in the bushes to capture this exclusive video. I hope you enjoy this exclusive footage.
