An Aberdeen city councilman is suing Monroe County and the sheriff’s department for an alleged violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.
Ward One Councilman Nicholas Holliday has filed a lawsuit against the two parties following an incident in December in which he was held at the Monroe County jail for several hours. WCBI reports that deputies executed a search warrant at an Aberdeen store called the Gas Station while he was present.
Law enforcement arrested store owner Maurice Howard — the city’s former mayor — the owner’s wife, and two employees for selling substances with THC that exceeds legal levels.
Holliday claims that he was questioned about his knowledge of the business and the owner’s practices and was held at the detention center despite not committing a crime. His litigation against the county and sheriff’s department stems from accusations that he was unjustly confined.
