Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves is touting a new employment record in the state.
The Republican announced Friday that the Magnolia State’s total non-farm employment reached a new record high in the month of August with 1,205,500 jobs. The growth comes amid a campaign by Reeves and business leaders to build upon the economic development success the state has experienced in recent years.
“Mississippi is making history – we did it again today,” Reeves said. “Record private sector investment, higher wages, more jobs – that’s what’s happening in Mississippi. We went to work on behalf of Mississippians, and we’ve delivered tangible results. It’s another great day for our state.”
In 2024, Mississippi ranked No. 2 in the nation for real gross domestic product growth, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. And from there, the state has continued to secure large capital investments from businesses looking to make Mississippi home to their operations.
Notably, Connecticut-based AVAIO Digital announced in August that it is building a $6 billion data center campus at the East Metropolitan Center Business and Industrial Park in Brandon — marking the third-largest project in state history. Homegrown companies Hood Industries and Howard Industries recently announced expansions of operations in Mississippi with capital investments north of $200 million each.
Reeves boasts that his team has helped Mississippi acquire over $41 billion in new private sector investment while helping create thousands of high-paying jobs across the state.
