Blame it on the dead man. Exclusive full audio of the recent WDAM interview with Sheriff Billy Mcgee and Charles Bolton

The first few minutes is Ryan Moore setting up the interview.

Forrest County Sheriff Billy McGee and Chief Deputy Charles Bolton claim to have absolutely no knowledge of over $700,000 of food being stolen from the Billy McGee Detention Center over a 12 year period. McGee blamed it all on the dead man, Alan Haralson.

The WDAM TV interview with Bolton and the Sheriff showed the Sheriff making what appear to be contradictory statements. The above recording is the unedited audio of the 25 minute interview that was edited for TV.

During the recent 2015 Sheriff’s race, which occurred after kitchen manager Alan Haralson died in December 2014, McGee said, “I don’t have any knowledge of any food being stolen from the Forrest County Jail.”

But now, McGee claims he did in fact have knowledge, prior to making that statement, that food was stolen. McGee now claims Haralson admitted to him (prior to his death in December 2014) that he (Haralson) “got greedy” and stole food. Yesterday on WDAM McGee claimed,

“I asked Mr. Haralson if he was guilty, and he said yes, I got greedy, I said well tell me how y’all did it, and he said my attorney told me that if I talk to anybody that the deal is off,” said McGee. “So he said I can’t talk to you sheriff.”

Sheriff McGee’s statements appear inconsistent, and Haralson, who is deceased, cannot respond. Why didn’t the sheriff tell citizens this in 2015?

Below are the quotes from yesterday’s interview with WDAM.

WDAM 7 News asked (Sheriff McGee), “You conducted your own investigation internally, correct?”

“That’s correct,” said McGee.

WDAM 7 News asked, “And then was anything discovered from that?”

“No,” said McGee.

McGee said he spoke with Haralson, and asked him if he was guilty.

“I asked Mr. Haralson if he was guilty, and he said yes, I got greedy, I said well tell me how y’all did it, and he said my attorney told me that if I talk to anybody that the deal is off,” said McGee. “So he said I can’t talk to you sheriff.”
