We are excited to announce that Laurel Middle School Teacher Dr. Janie Brown has been selected as a Curriculum Associates Extraordinary Educator for the Class of 2023. The program, which celebrates and connects best-in-class teachers who demonstrate established criteria. Extraordinary Educators will receive recognition locally and nationally, a network of peers from around the country, professional development opportunities, and the opportunity to attend the Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit.
Dr. Janie Brown received an associate degree in elementary education from Jones County Junior College, which led to her Bachelor of Science in Education from The University of Southern Mississippi. After completing her bachelor’s degree, Dr. Brown began her career in elementary education at Ida Greene Elementary and moved on to Rowan Elementary. Within her fifteen years as an elementary teacher, Dr. Brown continued her education by receiving a Master of Science from William Carey University and a doctorate from Capella University. Since 2020, Dr. Brown has been the 7th-grade math teacher at Laurel Middle School, where she serves as the Math and Science Department Chair. She teaches 8th-grade math, assists with after-school tutoring, serves on the School Improvement Team and serves as PLC Leader.
