On Monday, April 15, Mayor Johnny Magee met with SCRMC’s Volunteer Coordinator Bonnie Smith and several of her dedicated volunteers to thank them for their services and to proclaim the week of April 21-27, 2024 as Healthcare Volunteer Appreciation Week in the City of Laurel set to coincide with National Healthcare Volunteer Week.
“We appreciate the mayor for taking the time to proclaim this week and providing us the opportunity to recognize these special volunteers for their dedication and unselfish giving to our facility,” Smith said. Smith was joined by student volunteers Mason Johnson and Lauren Hunter and Douglas Walters and Geneva Williams who volunteer in admissions and the ICU waiting room respectively.
Those interested in volunteering with the hospital may contact Bonnie Smith at [email protected] or visit SCRMC.com.
On May 2, 2024, SCRMC held a special event to recognize all of its volunteers.
The proclamation read as follows:
Whereas, volunteerism has always been an essential part of the spirit and tradition of the City of Laurel, binding our citizens together to fortify our community and lay the foundation for tomorrow’s growth and prosperity as we confront problems and seek to give aid and comfort to those who need it; and
Whereas, volunteerism reflects the highest values of our democratic society in that regardless of situation, station, age, race, or creed, all may volunteer and thus reap the rich rewards that come from giving of themselves to others; and
Whereas, the City of Laurel wishes to recognize the vital role that volunteers play in improving the quality of life in our community
Now therefore, I, Johnny Magee, Mayor of the City of Laurel, do hereby proclaim April 21-27, 2024 as HealthCare Volunteer Appreciation Week in the City of Laurel and do hereby encourage all citizens to join me in honoring and expressing gratitude to the dedicated citizens of this community who give freely of their valuable time, energy, abilities, and resources as volunteers.
