Sherika McInnis, LPN II, has been a member of the South Central Regional Medical Center family for three years. Sherika, who is a Covington County native, works as a LPN caregiver at Jones County Rest Home. She completed high school at Collins High School. Following graduation, she attended Jones College and completed her LPN degree. While Sherika is working at Jones County Rest Home, she is currently enrolled at William Carey University to obtain her bachelor of science in nursing.
“Nursing is a passion for me,” said Sherika. “Being able to excel my career while working has been a major benefit for me. My team works with my schedule to provide flexibility to help me succeed. After I complete my BSN degree, I want to further my career more and become a nurse practitioner. I feel as though I am able to do that working with South Central.”
Long-term care is a special area of healthcare. Sherika states, “Working in a long-term care facility makes me feel as if I am treating my own family members. It warms my heart being able to provide care for adults who cannot care for themselves. Many times, it feels as if I am visiting and providing attention to my own grandparents. Taking care of those who do not have a family does something to you. It is a really great feeling.”
When providing care in a person’s home environment, it is important for the team to work together. “At Jones County Rest Home, the staff is very nice. Whenever I first started, I was welcomed with opened arms. Since that day, the team members have been nothing except amazing. I cannot thank them enough for helping me advance to where I am today.”
