(Submitted) The inaugural Laurel Main Street Chicken Wing Wars, proudly sponsored by Wayne-Sanderson Farms, is set to spice up the community on Saturday, November 9th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This ultimate chicken wing cooking competition features two thrilling divisions: Professional and Community. Teams of up to five members, led by a team captain, will showcase their culinary talents with up to 160 pounds of chicken wings. Judging will consist of 4 criteria – flavor, dry rub or sauce, texture and appearance.
Team entry is priced at $250, while event admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. The amount of tickets sold will correspond to the number of teams signed up to participate, so advance purchase is suggested. Attendees will be guaranteed to enjoy sampling up to five wing samples from various booths, with each sample consisting of two wing portions. Additional tickets will be available for more tasting opportunities while supplies last. Coca-Cola products will be sold, with proceeds benefiting local 4-H and FFA clubs, supported by student volunteers.
“The team at Wayne-Sanderson Farms is thrilled to sponsor the Wing Wars event as we strive to be recognized as the partner of choice by our communities,” said David Gadd, Wayne-Sanderson Farms Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Retail Business Unit. “We are excited about bringing our community together for a day of food, fun and fantastic chicken wings.”
Winners of each division will receive $500 and a coveted traveling trophy, designed by local artist Mark Brown and art students from Jones College. Attendees can also vote for their fan favorite team that will win $100. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of flavor and festivities!
“We are incredibly grateful to Wayne-Sanderson Farms for their generous sponsorship of this event,” said Caroline Burkes, Director of Laurel Main Street. “Their support allows us to bring this exciting new event to life, and we can’t wait to see our community come together to celebrate with great food and even greater company.”
