South Central Regional Medical Center Now Offering Cardiac PET Scans

Laurel, Miss. – Oct. 7, 2024 – South Central Regional Medical Center proudly announces the launch of cardiac PET scans as a new service provided on-site, enhancing diagnostic capabilities for cardiovascular patients.

The ability to conduct cardiac PET scans represents a significant advancement in diagnostic cardiac care technology, providing detailed imaging that is crucial for early and accurate diagnosis of heart conditions. This state-of-the-art equipment allows for precise evaluation of blood flow, heart function and the detection of coronary artery disease with unparalleled clarity and efficiency.

According to recent statistics from the Mississippi State Department of Health, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the state, underscoring the critical need for advanced cardiac diagnostic tools. The addition of the cardiac PET scanner at SCRMC addresses this need directly, offering patients access to timely and accurate assessments that can lead to more targeted treatment plans and improved outcomes.

“We are thrilled to introduce the ability to conduct cardiac PET scans to our facility,” said

Dewayne Brown, Director of Radiology at SCRMC. “This advanced imaging capability will enable us to diagnose cardiac conditions earlier and with greater precision, ultimately enhancing the quality of care we provide to our patients.”

The cardiac PET scans are part of SCRMC’s ongoing commitment to advancing local healthcare. Patients can now benefit from comprehensive cardiac imaging services delivered by a team of skilled professionals who are dedicated to improving cardiovascular health outcomes.

Patients from within SCRMC’s service area previously had to travel more than 30 miles to receive this type of scan, and this new capability helps facilitate a more expedient and comfortable scanning experience.

Patients can speak with their provider about having the test completed at SCRMC. For more information about the cardiac PET scans and other services offered at SCRMC, please visit scrmc.com.
