As we wrap up 2024 and prepare for 2025, we would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the big moments from the last 12 months. Many changes can happen over the course of a year, and in the case of the Laurel City Clerk’s office, many changes DID occur!
On Friday, January 5th, 2024 longtime Chief Deputy Clerk Cindy Pitts retired from the city after over two decades of service. (You can read the full story here.)
Soon afterwards, Katira Banks, was selected to fill the position and has since been serving the city as its Chief Deputy Clerk and Special Events Coordinator.
In June, City Clerk and Finance Director Mary Ann Hess, left after serving the city for 24 years. (The full story can be found here.)
This prompted a cascade of changes within the department as City Accountant & Deputy Clerk Kristal Jones moved into Hess’ spot and Accounts Payable Specialist & Deputy Clerk Lauren Stewart took over Jones’ role.
Regan Thornton, who had been working at the City’s Visitors Center, moved into Stewart’s vacated role and became the city’s Accounts Payable Specialist & Deputy Clerk.
These changes come at a pivotal time for the City Clerk’s office, as the city moves toward enhancing services, streamlining operations, and fostering continued growth. The new leadership team is committed to ensuring that the office continues to serve the residents of Laurel with the same level of professionalism and dedication that has been a hallmark of the city’s administration.
As the City of Laurel looks toward the future, these staff transitions are a testament to the city’s ability to grow, adapt, and build on a strong foundation of experienced professionals while welcoming fresh perspectives and energy!
