Forrest County Justice Court Candidate Brenda Roberts recently qualified to run for Justice Court Judge District Two as a Democrat. Roberts, along with incumbent Judge Zach Vaughan (Republican) are the only candidates currently qualified for that seat.

Roberts worked for the Mississippi Highway Patrol for 14 years, until she, along with two other civilian workers and five officers, were fired after after the completion of a six month investigation into alleged wrongdoing.  The investigation centered around a scheme to sell CDL licenses and tamper with vehicle titles. None of the fired employees (including Roberts) or officers were prosecuted for any criminal activity.

Original article from the Hattiesburg American regarding the MHP firings.

Roberts stated in her announcement, “I know a lot of you already know. I am running for Forrest County Justice Court Judge. This is something I have always wanted to do since the 70’s, during that time I was working as Judge Billy Peebles, City Court Clerk for Hattiesburg Police. Law Enforcement has been my life. I worked with the Mississippi Highway Patrol DPS, 14 years. I have worked with The Holmes Law Firm for many, many years, with them I have been taught a lot, I will take what I learned and use it for the good of the people in Forrest County. I can show what giving people an opportunity to better themselves is all about. Mr. Bud Holmes told me that many years ago, Mr. Bud always said if you want something bad enough go for it.”
