Mississippi Tornadoes: How to Help and Where to Get Help

With Mississippi communities still reeling from the deadly storms and tornadoes that lashed the state over the weekend, government agencies and local organizations have announced various resources and services for affected residents.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency listed the following survivor support and item locations on its website for residents in need:

Grenada County
Elliott Baptist Church – 566 Nat G Troutt Rd. Grenada, MS
Smith County
Taylorsville Attendance Center Gymnasium (open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Friday) – 324 Hester St. Taylorsville, MS 39168 Taylorsville Police Department – 107 Jane St, Taylorsville, MS 39168
Walthall County
Springhill Church of God in Christ Dinan Baptist Magee’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Calvary Baptist Church – will be dispersing items in the Salem area Union Baptist Church New Zion Baptist Church Centerville Baptist Church Tylertown First Baptist Church China Grove Church of God in Christ East Sunny Hill Church St. John Church of God in Christ Mesa Mt Olive Church Greater Fairview Church Darbun Community Worship Center St. Paul Baptist

MEMA also announced three locations where people can drop off donations for affected residents and listed requested items for each place. They are:

Walthall County – Walthall EOC: 908 Armory Rd., Tylertown, MS 39667

Needs: Paper towels, gas cans, baby formula, generators, chain saws, rakes, brooms, laundry detergent (cannot accept clothes, perishable food or monetary donations).

Needs: Plastic totes to store clothes, cleaning supplies. Accepting monetary donations – call for information (No perishable food, no clothes. Can not accept big trucks).
